La quarantena in certi momenti è pesante. Mi sono sorpreso a desiderare la compagnia di un amico, di quelli speciali con cui divertirsi e riflettere, con cui ridere e condividere avventure.
Poi è apparso lui.
Viene dall’unico posto nel mondo in cui il virus non ha attaccato, è uno di cui ci si può fidare. A partire da oggi racconterò la storia di questa straordinaria amicizia: io & Kim.

Io e Kim abbiamo passato la pasquetta insieme e come da tradizione abbiamo acceso un piccolo fuoco per arrostire delle salsicce paesane. Di fronte al fuoco, Kim si è aperto un po’ con me. Era triste e riflessivo. Quell’odore di carne che bruciava lo riportava alle sue visioni belliche più ambiziose. Mi ha raccontato dei missili, le armi chimiche, l’inferno in terra, la luce delle fiamme…
L’ho fermato, gli ho detto ‘dai Kim, è pasquetta, divertiamoci. Al lavoro si pensa domani’. Un amico è anche questo: spensieratezza all’improvviso.

Kim and I spent Easter Monday together and, in keeping with tradition, lit a small fire to roast country sausages. In front of the fire, Kim opened up a little with me. He was sad and thoughtful. The smell of burning meat brought back his most ambitious war visions. He told me about missiles, chemical weapons, hell on earth, the light of flames …
I stopped him, Kim, it’s Easter Monday, let’s have fun. Work can wait until tomorrow.
A friend is also this; sudden light-heartedness.

Vorrei rassicurare tutti: Kim sta bene ed è qui con me. Sorridente e giocherellone come sempre. Ha solo un po’ di male al pancino, ma è forte e non si lamenta.

Kim mi ha chiamato all’improvviso e ha insistito, un’ emergenza. Nel deserto gli è venuta una gran voglia di rivedere l’ultima puntata di Dawson’s Creek, ma il suo tecnico video di fiducia era a terra con la febbre e non riusciva a respirare.
Che cos’è l’amicizia, se non godere insieme di piccoli grandi classici! Così sono arrivato da lui e ho collegato il monitor. Seguono momenti di pura gioia. Kim called me suddenly and insisted it was an emergency.
A great desire had come to him in the desert, to see the latest episode of Dawson’s Creek, but his trusted video technician was on the floor with a fever and could not breathe.
What is friendship, if not enjoying together the great little classics! So I went to him and connected the monitor. Moments of pure joy follow.

Avevo una gran voglia di fare un dono al mio amico Kim per festeggiare insieme il 25 Aprile, ero alla ricerca di qualcosa di personale quando ho trovato dei palloncini CSR.
Lui è stato felicissimo.
Ho scoperto che a Kim piacciono molto le cose rosse e anche i palloncini.
Ma non ne vedeva uno da tanto tempo.
Il papà gli proibiva di giocarci perché quando scoppiavano succedeva sempre un gran macello.

I had a great desire to give my friend Kim a gift, I was looking for something personal when I found some CSR balloons.
He was overjoyed.
I found out that Kim really likes red things and balloons too.
But he hadn’t seen one in a long time.
His Dad forbade him to play with them because when they broke there was always a big mess.

Kim mi ha fatto una sorpresa: ha montato un arsenale di missili nord coreani di ultima generazione sul mio tetto e mi ha detto ‘se l’INPS non ti versa i 600€ del bonus indennità, li abbattiamo’.
Dai Kim, per 600€ vuoi scatenare l’inferno?
‘Sono sempre 600€’ mi ha risposto serafico…poi si è perso nel racconto dei fiorellini del suo balconcino.

Kim surprised me: He installed brand new North Korean missiles on my roof and said ‘If INPS does not pay you the €600 quarantine bonus as promised, I will wipe them down.’ I said ‘Come on Kim, do you really want to unleash hell for €600?’ He said it is €600 we are talking about, it is worth a few missiles…then he got lost reminiscing about the pretty tiny flowers on his balcony.

Il “brillante compagno” come lo chiamano tutti a casa sua, ha pensato bene di farmi conoscere il suo nuovo migliore amico animale. Lo ha preso proprio ieri, ispirandosi al mio gattino, bianco come lui. Per enorme spirito di compassione e amicizia, ha reso sordo anche il cavallo.

Oggi voglio parlare un po’ dei difetti di Kim.
Gli amici, quelli veri, ti dicono le cose in faccia, non nascondono, non ti assecondano.
Kim sarà pure il sole brillante della Corea del Nord, ma nessuno è perfetto: il mio amico ha un serio problema di flatulenza…fa delle scorregge abominevoli, ma la cosa che mi indispettisce più è che non lo ammette, dopo aver sganciato finge sempre totale indifferenza. Si fa serio serio e resta così.
La puzza è incredibile.
Ora capisco perchè quando si parla di lui si nominano sempre le armi chimiche o le bombe nucleari.

Today I want to talk a little bit about Kim’s flaws.
“Best friends” means talking clearly, face to face.
He might be the shining sun of North Korea but nobody is perfect: my friend has a serious flatulence problem…He makes unbearable farts, but what annoys me most is he doesn’t admit it, after breaks wind he always pretends indifference.
Unbelievable smell… now I understand why, when people talk about him they always mention chemical weapons and nuclear bombs.

Oggi ho costretto Kim ad uscire di casa. Lui non vuole mai uscire. E’ timido. Io gli ho detto “Ci facciamo un giro in incognito nei vicoletti dei Sassi” e così l’ho convito.
Camminando abbiamo visto una ragazza che correva. Niente di speciale ma Kim è impazzito: l’ha guardata come se fosse l’ultima donna sulla terra e poi ha iniziato a sudare e fare battutine oscene a raffica.
“Kim tu hai qualche problema con le donne!” e lui mi ha confessato “quelle occidentali mi fanno questo effetto!…io non volevo uscire…mi conosco…ora capisci perché Melania non è venuta in Corea del nord?”.
Siamo dovuti tornare a casa perché era sovraeccitato.
Ecco, credo che Kim sia un po’ agorafobico…
I forced Kim to leave the house today. He never wants to go out. He’s very shy. I convinced him by saying ‘Let’s walk incognito around the alleyways of the Sassi’. Whilst walking we saw a girl, jogging.
She was nothing to shout about, but Kim went mad and looked at her like she was the last woman on earth. Then started sweating profusely and making obscene jokes.
“Kim, you have a serious problem with women!” and he confessed; “western women give me this effect … I didn’t want to go out … I know myself … now do you understand why Melania didn’t come to North Korea?”.
He was in such a state that we went home.
I think Kim suffers from agoraphobia …

Oggi Kim mi ha dato un annuncio importante. Durante il pranzo, tutto serio e in modo molto formale mi ha detto:
‘Amico compagno Luca, domenica notte vado via. Sono state due settimane gloriose ma il mio compito finisce con la quarantena. Non avrai più bisogno di me. E poi io non posso restare qui con la mia brutta agorafobia…’ per chiudere si è tuffato nella pasta con i broccoli.
E’ stato un colpo tremendo, devo ancora elaborare…
Ho apprezzato il suo sangue freddo e gli sforzi che ha fatto per non piangere.

Today Kim gave me an announcement during lunch, in a very serious and formal way. He said ‘Comrade Luca, I am leaving Sunday night. We had two glorious weeks. My job here ends with the quarantine, you won’t need me anymore and I can’t stay here with my agoraphobia.’ Then he dove into the pasta with broccoli.
It was a terrible blow, I have yet to elaborate …
I appreciated his cold blood and the efforts he made to keep from crying.

Io e Kim avevamo un progetto in sospeso. Entrambi siamo molto appassionati di polpette. Non solo polpette di carne, ma qualsiasi cosa che ha una forma sferica. Kim and I had a pending project. We both love meatballs. Not just meatballs, but any food that has a spherical shape.
